Repose

Ah, holiday season,
gatherings across
far flung lands,
travels on airplanes
and trains, cars and
buses, gatherings
of families and friends.

The mad activities,
oh certainly there has
to be a point where
activities cease,
change and time
no longer denied!

Yes! Gather together,
but for what end?
Certainly not for food alone,
or bright packages,
oh so much lost in
repetitions of ritual,
where meaning
has been forgotten.

Yes! Gather together,
for there is
good reason, when
days grow cold,
nights are long,
to make again
a light, promise
of return, and
in that meaning,
find true repose.
