Just Sittin'

Holiday season swirls around me
in mad excitements,
social obligations,
as I'm just sittin'.
Can't get too worked up
because in my depths
I'm just sittin'.

Sittin' and looking
at the big wide world
from a small place,
in a little patch of sunshine,
sittin' on a porch somewhere,
looking at the play
of light and shadow.

Hearing birdsong,
Looking at the branches
of a tree,
hearing water lapping
against the shore,
Just sittin'
and existing in
a small place,
where I can see
the whole world
entire.
